The Killarney Brickfields have a rich history in producing fine clay brick products for some of South Africa’s most prestigious developments since the early 1970’s. This area, located on the outskirts of Stellenbosch, has since become known as Devonbosch. In the early 1990’s the Capri Family took ownership of the Brickfields, successfully expanding the business over the past few decades.

In 2017 an introduction was made between the Capri’s and SquareTurn Holdings (co-owned by the successful property development business in Belgium, Square Group). SquareTurn have been investing in strategic property land holdings in South Africa for a considerable time and a shared vision with the Capri Family of what Devonbosch can become lead to the formation of a Co- Development Company called DB Property Development Company.

DB Property Development Company’s vision was shared with a team of Urban Design Professionals that resulted in the Devonbosch Mixed-Use Concept that is now being realised and brought to the market.

Devonbosch employs a unique design philosophy where the entire development concept is based on design principals that not only achieve high levels of integration between the working and living elements of the development but securing these in a qualitative architectural environment.

Devonbosch presents a unique opportunity to create a new Urban Town in the Winelands that celebrates the uniqueness of a town balanced between qualitative and quantitative spaces whilst focussing on the sustainable demands of the future. The entire development is designed to ease the demands on the environment through the management of water resources, the provision of sustainable energy and internal waste recycling measures. The commitment to Sustainability extends into the design of buildings through the employment of environmentally sound building practices, the installation of double-glazed windows, the installation of Photo Voltaic Panels, smart Cooling and Heating installations and other initiatives.

The world’s commitment to be less car dependant in future becomes clear when evaluating the traffic and parking provisions at Devonbosch. Traffic is prompted to leave the streets through the provision of convenient parking options where vehicles are stored out of sight beneath buildings or behind structures. This results in the public spaces at Devonbosch to be open and decluttered. Pedestrians and cyclists are promoted above the needs of motorists by providing dedicated foot paths and cycling lanes that enables easy circulation through the development.

Devonbosch is located next to the mountain biking trails of the Bottelary Hills Conservancy, which offers well-marked routes across rolling hillsides, complemented by ample parking and a coffee shop. Mountain bikers enjoy controlled access to various terrains, including vineyards, farmland and conservation areas, on a network of farm roads, jeep tracks and single-track trails. With challenging climbs and routes of various distances to satisfy riders of all fitness levels, the conservancy is one of the Cape Winelands’ finest mountain-biking destinations.
